    Sports Network) - One of the legendary players in Toronto Maple Leafs history makes his return to the Air Canada Centre tonight, although he won't be donning the home team's sweater.

    Mats Sundin will face his former team for the first time since leaving the Maple Leafs in this evening's much-anticipated matchup with the Vancouver Canucks.

    The NHL is trying to crackdown on unnecessary blows to the head.

    The NHL's Senior Vice President and Director of Hockey Operations, Colin Campbell, had the following memo, obtained by TSN, posted in every NHL dressing room on Friday.

    "Recently, we have had two (2) supplemental discipline incidents involving direct elbow blows to the head. This is a play that we have been trying to remove from our game for a number of years. In one case there was no injury and in the other incident the elbowed Player received a concus

    (Sports Network) - The Toronto Maple Leafs will complete their three-game tour of western Canada tonight, when they visit the Vancouver Canucks for a battle at General Motors Place.

    The Maple Leafs are 1-1 so far on the swing after losing a 4-3 decision in Calgary on Tuesday and posting a 5-2 victory over Edmonton on Thursday. Toronto has won two of three overall, but is just 2-3-1 over it its last six contests.

    General managers will have one extra day to make NHL trades. The league said yesterday it has pushed the trade deadline back to March 4. A high volume of games forced the switch. There are 12 games on the schedule March 3 and only two March 4. The league and NHL Players' Association agreed on the change.

    The Vancouver Canucks are poised to make Mike Gillis their new general manager.

    CTV British Columbia has confirmed a report that the former player agent will join the Canucks' front office. Gillis has no previous management experience.

    The team is expected to make the official announcement on Wednesday.

    Gillis is the current agent of Canucks captain Markus Naslund.

    The 49-year-old also played 246 games in the NHL with the Colorado Rockies and Boston Bruins.
