Posted by dizee on 03/19/2008 - 03:47 PMWith the 2008 season finally coming to a end for the Blues, I thought I would go ahead and take a look at the Blues free agents aswell as possible free agents to sign here during the offseason.
Backes, David 23 STL C RFA
Johnson, Mike 32 STL R UFA
Johnson, Ryan 31 STL C UFA
McClement, Jay 24 STL C RFA
Rucinsky, Martin 36 STL L UFA
Stastny, Yan 24 STL C UFA
Toivonen, Hannu 23 STL G RFA
Walker, Matt 27 STL D UFA
Woywitka, Jeff 23 STL D RFA
Out of that list, I'd like to see Backes, Ryan Johnson, Yan Stastny and Woywitka come back and I would like to put Toivonen into the minors to get his game fixed.
Jay McClement has never impressed me. He is a decent PKer but just does not have the talent to compete and play night in and out in the new NHL and this team has too many players with his kind of mold (Mayers, Hinote, Johnson)
Matt Walker is worthless and is a human cone.
Martin Rucinsky is old and not the player he was 5+ years ago. The fact that Murray decided to continue give him minutes over Perron earlier in the season was a complete joke.
Mike Johnson never got a real shot here so it is nto a loss IMO.
Looking to the 2008 free agent pool, there are a few people I would like to see wear the Blue note next season and they are:
Johan Hedberg - Blues need a solid backup goalie to help give Legace a day off every now and then.
Pavol Demitra - Blues need some scorers, bad. Demitra would provide that.
Those are the only free agents I would like to see. For the rest of the vaccant spots, give them to young players like Oshie and Bergland.
