So in tonights matchup against the panthers, we saw a habs side a lot of us are familiar with. When the goalie gets hot; the habs get going... out of the bell center. Without looking at the specific stats, most of the second was dominated by the panthers, including half of the third. Clearly, Halak is striving for more games witht he way he is playing.
The habs didn't look like blockbusters, but neither did they look like lacklusters. The played decent hockey, nothing stellar. Without Kostitsyn who is out from that huge hit, Laraque is also out with a groin injury and Higgins no where to be found, the only bright side was the return of Boullion, who had his first of the season unassisted. Also lighting Vokouns neck, (who also played amazingly) was Captain K, Saku Koivu.
From the get go in the game the panthers had a hard time staying out of the box, which is the only reason why I can say Halak had an "easier" time relatively to what could have been, because the panthers seemed rejeuvenated even with Olli Jokinen despite 7 penalties. 6 in the first 2 periods..
Kyle Chipchura was called up, and made his presence quite known on the ice, played a solid game with blocked shots, nice passes and hustle up and down the ice. If he isn't a star of the game officially, he is a star unofficially.
The last 2 minutes of the game proved to be trying for the Canadiens, with a penalty going to Lapierre for holding the stick with approx 2:20 left to go. With a minute left Vokoun rushes off for the extra man. A faceoff in the panthers zone will cause Vokoun to come back onto the ice with 56.5 seconds left. Florida won the draw and vokoun was off the ice before the panthers left their own zone. As time wound down Plekanec came up with a gift giveaway in his own zone, rushed to the blueline and netted the empty netter with 24 seconds left in the game, solidifying Boullions game winning goal.
The habs advance to 5-0-1 for 10 out of a possible 11 points. Continuing their domincance of the eastern Conference, highering hopes for the Montreal team and its fans.
