It is with great excitement that I would like to announce that we have now removed the beta tag on the Silverlight, and iStream services.

Mark November 18th on your calendars as the day live hockey was finally brought to your mobile devices... in TRUE HD!

We will still be rolling Silverlight out slowly to eliminate any issues. We will start byp doing no more than 5 simultaneous Silverlight streams.

What does that mean? If there are 6 games that have start times between 7:00 PM EST and 9:00 PM EST, one of these games will stick with the Premium/Extreme/Deluxe model. This will be done to give us an idea of what kind of scaling needs to be done to our infrastructure.

This does not mean we are launching a new technology without being prepared. It means we'd like to see how much of our current model gets utilized so we don't jump the gun.

ALL Silverlight streams will be 480p (720x404 @ 2000kbps) to start (When an HD source is available for us, It will be an HD stream). Through out the next several months, Silverlight will allow us to do testing on TRUE 720p streams (1280x720 @ 3200kbps). The plan for us is to have every playoff game covered in 720P this year.

We didn't forget about those that use public internet, hotel internet, or simply have slower internet. Silverlight allows our feeds to automatically adapt to your network conditions and choose between 320x180 @ 600kbps, 640x360 @ 1000kbps, or 720x404 @ 2000kbps.

Our custom Silverlight player brings many new features:

    - Adaptive Bandwidth
    - Digital PVR (Pause, Rewind, Fast Forward, Slow Motion, Start an in progress game from the start)
    - Ability to pick your bitrate
    - Ability to track frame rate
    - GPU Acceleration
    - Pick how the video scales to your screen (Stretch, Stretch & Keep aspect ratio, original, or none)
    - Instant highlights from user submitted game summary
    - Optional markers showing where important junctures of the game were in On-Demand archives [preview]
    - Archive viewers no longer have to worry about the stream time ruining the result of the game, You no longer see how long a stream is, only how long you've had it running for.
    - and much much MUCH more...

    Silverlight Preview

We are currently working on ways to get silverlight working on external devices. For the time being, Every silverlight feed will have a joining WMV (Windows Media) feed that can be used to play on XBOX, Playstation 3, and any other external devices. Silverlight support is coming to these devices as well.

The lonely WMV feed will feature a 640x390 resolution @ 1000kbps.

This change defeated the point of having a two type subscription model. Effective immediately - There will be only Premium Gold, and iStream memberships available... With lower pricing!

    New prices are effective immediately.

    Premium Gold
    1 Day - $6.99
    1 Week - $10.99
    1 Month - $15.99
    3 Months - $34.99
    6 Months - $54.99
    1 Year - $89.99

    iStream
    1 Day - $3.97
    1 Week - $6.97
    1 Month - $9.97
    3 Months - $19.97
    6 Months - $29.97
    1 Year - $39.97

All-in-One (Both Premium Gold and iStream)
    1 Day - $8.49
    1 Week - $12.99
    1 Month - $16.98
    3 Months - $49.96
    6 Months - $74.97
    1 Year - $104.99

Members that already signed up for the 1 year package at $99.99 will ALL receive free iStream access for the same duration as their Premium Gold membership.

Current Premium level members have all been upgraded to Premium Gold. This means that on those games where Silverlight isn't available, You will now have access to Premium, Extreme and Deluxe feeds as well.

This is a massive overhaul and we've worked extremely hard to try and transition as smoothly as possible. But if we missed something - We're here to hear it.

If you have feedback, comments, suggestions, and what not, we want to hear it!

    Thanks,
    Jason Bernard

Seeing how I paid for 6 months previously for $59.99 (now $54.99 not going to whine about $5), can I add the iStream to that sub for $15?

Some of us can't get SL. I do hope that you will continue to offer a premium stream other than SL!

There is still a Windows Media feed on every game that is better than the previous Extreme feeds.

    Thanks

You were still locked in under the old pricing. Only those that registered at $99.99 got iStream activated.

    Thanks

Is there a way to force a better quality? Even though my connection is not fast, it can handle better. On wmv, I can handle the better quality stream among the 3, but on SL, the program forces the lowest quality! It's a big downgrade for me!

    Thank you.

Click the G at the bottom. Move the maximum bit rate slider down to around 1500. See if that changes anything for you.

Archives no longer available after UPGRADE!
It's impossible to access the hockey archives now that you've switched yearly accounts to silverlight only! Unless you want to convert all your archived streams to silverlight you need to give us access to the both formats in order to deliver the archived games that we can no longer watch (but paid for).
